Miners Rally for Biggest Comeback Since 2023 Behind Career Nights from Henry and Young

ST. LOUIS, MO  --  The Missouri S&T Men's Basketball team completed a 15-point comeback on Thursday, marking the largest come from behind victory since 2023. Andrew Young's (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) career-high 28 points paced the Miners, while Darron Henry (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Poly) and Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) bullied the Tritons with combined total of nine steals.

The Tritons scored a quick five to start the contest, knocking down a three and adding a layup for the early advantage. Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) scored the Miners' first points in the following possession, picking up an offensive rebound before working into the paint for a layup.

UMSL would put together an 11-0 run in the next two and a half minutes, taking a 16-4 lead. The Miners slowed the Tritons' in the following minutes, getting a triple from Young and three steals while holding their opponents scoreless for the next four minutes.

The Tritons got back into rhythm offensively, pulling ahead by as many as ten but Young kept the Miners in it, helping keep the deficit in single digits for most of the half. An 11-3 UMSL run extended their lead to as many as fifteen, eventually heading into halftime up 40-27.

Back-to-back buckets from Young out of halftime started a 14-4 scoring run for the Miners with Beauchamp capping the run with a three at 16:37 to cut the deficit to three. UMSL's Jake Hamilton hit a jumper and a three a few possessions later, leading a 7-0 run that returned the Tritons' lead to ten.

Another triple from Young ended a two-minute scoring drought for S&T, starting a run that would cut the Tritons' lead down to four at 54-50. Henry would score six in just over a minute, helping the Miners tie the score at 58-58. The Tritons retook the lead on another three from Hamilton, but layups from Henry and Young gave the Miners their first lead of the game at 63-61.

There would be four lead changes in the next two and a half minutes, with a three from Beauchamp putting S&T back in the driver's seat at 70-67. A key steal by Henry set up a pair of free throws on the other end, with #5 hitting both to push the lead to 72-67. A block by Young led to another empty possession for the Tritons, with Young making his fourth three of the night on the other end of the court. Another steal by Henry led to two more S&T free throws, giving the Miners the necessary buffer to stave off the Tritons and claim the 84-81 victory.

Young's 29 points are a career high for him. The senior forward shot 10-of-17 from the field and picked up his second double-double of the season with 10 rebounds. Beauchamp's 19 points were second highest on the team, adding ten in the last three and a half minutes of the game. Henry's had his best performance since joining S&T, putting up 18 points, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds.
