Men's Football Rallies Late in Road Battle at Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Missouri S&T football battled to the final whistle Saturday evening but came up short in a 27-10 road decision against Missouri Western at Craig Field at Spratt Stadium.

After trailing at the half, the Miners came alive in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jake Farrell (Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep) connected with Sheldon Butler-Lawson (Junction City, KS/Junction City) on a five-yard touchdown pass to cap an eight-play, 75-yard drive, putting S&T on the board with just over four minutes left to play. On the following possession, the Miners marched 21 yards to set up Layne Ryals (Louisburg, KS/Louisburg), who drilled a 36-yard field goal in the closing seconds.

Farrell finished 19-of-30 passing for 175 yards and a touchdown, spreading completions to nine different receivers. Reid Weber (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) hauled in six passes for 64 yards, while Sam Ryan (Columbia, MO/Father Tolton) added three catches for 64 yards, highlighted by a 50-yard strike that helped set up the late scoring push. Butler-Lawson's touchdown grab was one of his three receptions on the night.

Defensively, the Miners made key adjustments after halftime, holding Missouri Western to just one field goal in the third quarter. Seneca Bradley (Clarksville, TN/Rossview) led the unit with eight tackles, including a sack, while Justin Gniedziejko (Chicago, IL/Taft) and Peyton Webster (Springfield, IL/Springfield) each added seven stops. Max Barnes (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) broke up a pass and recorded six tackles, and Bentley Hart (Brookland, AR/Brookland) added a tackle for loss to stall a fourth-quarter drive.

S&T closed the night with 178 passing yards, converted 7-of-14 third downs, and was a perfect 2-for-2 in the red zone. The Miners move to 2-1 on the season and will look to build on their late momentum heading into conference play.
