Women's Volleyball Splits Opening Day Matches at Hampton Inn Invitational; Sweeping the Lakers

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Miners closed out day one of the Hampton Inn Invitational by splitting with Bemidji State and Roosevelt on Thursday. After a tough three‑set loss to Bemidji State to start the day, S&T bounced back to take down Roosevelt in straight sets. Missouri S&T moves to 2‑4 on the season.

Beavers 3, Miners 0
Despite the 3‑0 final, the Miners played one of their most complete matches of the season to date, pushing Bemidji State to the wire in each set, especially the third, where S&T held a late lead before the Beavers rallied to close it out 26‑24. 

Four Miners posted 5+ kills, led by Lexi Kosmopolis (O'Fallon, IL/Newsome) and Elly Decker (Manhattan, IL/Lincoln Way West) with 7 each. Decker also made a big impact at the service line, delivering 4 aces, a career-high for the junior. S&T out-blocked Bemidji 8‑3, with Kate Zipprich (Hardin, IL/Calhoun) recording 6 total blocks, while Elise Mehaffy (Marion, IA/Marion) added 11 digs and led the team in assists with 19.

Miners 3, Lakers 0
Missouri S&T carried the momentum from its strong showing in the opener into its second match, controlling the pace from start to finish to earn its first sweep of the season over Roosevelt with set scores of 25‑17, 25‑23, and 25‑20.

Kosmopolis had a standout performance with 12 kills on a .367 hitting percentage, while  Zipprich added 10 kills, and both Decker and Addie Schoenberger (Menomonee Falls, WI/Hamilton Sussex) contributed nine each. Mehaffy ran the offense smoothly with 39 assists and helped the Miners hit .288 as a team.S&T had three players reach double-digit digs, including Kosmopolis, Schoenberger, and Mehaffy, highlighting their all-around team play. Kosmopolis added 12 digs, recording her season-first double-double.

What's Next
The Miners return for Day 2 of the Hampton Inn Invitational, facing Winona State at 11 a.m. and Wisconsin-Parkside at 6 p.m.
