Women's Volleyball Battles Through Five-Set Thriller to Close Hampton Inn Invitational

KENOSHA, Wis. – Women's volleyball battled through a hard-fought day, falling to Winona State in three sets and UW-Parkside in five, to close out the Hampton Inn Invitational.

Warriors 3, Miners 0
The Miners came out sharp in the opening set, collecting 11 kills and hitting .229 as Lexi Kosmopolis (O'Fallon, IL/Newsome) and Addie Schoenberger (Menomonee Falls, WI/Hamilton Sussex) provided a spark on the pins. S&T stayed within striking distance for much of the frame before falling 25-19.

In the second, Elise Mehaffy (Marion, IA/Marion) kept the offense balanced, finishing the match with 25 assists and a .667 hitting percentage on her own attempts. Schoenberger continued her strong play with several key points, including two service aces, while Kosmopolis added to her team-high eight kills. Despite those efforts, the Miners were edged 25-17.

The third set featured another fight from S&T, with Reese Massey (Kansas City, MO/Staley) and Mya McClain (Fort Dodge, IA/St. Edmond) anchoring the defense with nine digs each, keeping rallies alive and giving the attack more opportunities. Schoenberger added to her seven-kill total, but the Miners came up short 25-15 to close the match.

Rangers 3, Miners 2
The Miners started strong with a .324 hitting percentage in the opening frame, led by Elly Decker's (Manhattan, IL/Lincoln Way West) powerful swings on her way to a career-high 19 kills and 15 digs, earning her third double-double of the season. Addie Schoenberger (Menomonee Falls, WI/Hamilton Sussex) added to the momentum with timely points, guiding S&T to a 25-20 first-set win. After a close second set went Parkside's way, the Miners answered in the third as Schoenberger sparked the attack, finishing a career-high night with 15 kills, 11 digs, four aces, and six blocks, earning her first double-double as a Miner.

The fourth set turned into a marathon, with Elise Mehaffy (Marion, IA/Marion) (46 assists, 13 digs) keeping the offense balanced, but the Miners fell just short, 29-27. In the fifth, S&T hit .304 behind Avery Patton's (Lathrop, MO/Truman) .471 efficiency and Reese Massey's (Kansas City, MO/Staley) career-high 22 digs, but Parkside edged the Miners 16-14.
