ROLLA, MO – Missouri S&T Track and Field Head Coach Shaun Meinecke is resigning after serving in the position for the past eight years.
"Shaun Meinecke is highly respected both within the track and field profession and throughout the campus and Rolla community," said Missouri S&T Director of Athletics Melissa Ringhausen. "Under his leadership, our teams achieved remarkable success—highlighted by conference championships, numerous broken records, and a consistent standard of academic excellence. He leaves the program in an outstanding position for continued success, and we are deeply grateful for the years he dedicated to S&T. We wish Shaun and his family—Jaqueline, James, and Audrey Rose—all the best as they begin this next chapter."
Coach Meinecke first took the reins of the track and field program in 2018, leading the men's team to seven Great Lakes Valley Conference championships in his eight seasons with the program. Five of those championships came in outdoor track and field (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024), with the other two earned during the 2020 and 2023 indoor seasons.
During Meinecke's tenure, the track and field program produced 51 GLVC event winners and one national champion, with 15 of the GLVC titles coming in indoor events and 36 in outdoor. S&T also earned five Athlete of the Year awards and four Freshman of the Year honors during that time. Meinecke was named GLVC Coach of the Year seven times—five for outdoor seasons (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024) and twice for indoor (2020 and 2023).
When asked about his time at S&T, Coach Meinecke said: "The eight years I've spent in Rolla, my family and I have had the opportunity to be surrounded by wonderful people, both at the university and in the city. I'm happy to have shared a lot of memorable moments with great groups of student-athletes, coaches, and community. It's hard to leave a great program that I've taken a lot of pride in, but I am happy that it is difficult. If it were easy, that would mean we didn't do it right. These athletes have been—and will continue to be—amazing ambassadors for our university, and I look forward to seeing the continued success of the program and the department.
"I want to especially thank Mark Mullin for bringing us to Rolla, Melissa Ringhausen for the last five years under her direction, all of our alumni and families who have shared in the belief in our program and helped make vast improvements, and the Rolla community for all of the great interactions that I have had."
