ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Baseball will take on either Quincy or Illinois Springfield on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
Series History
Quincy is 48-30 all-time versus Missouri S&T since 1991. Quincy has won 10 of the last 12 games against S&T. Their last matchup was on May 11, 2023, in the GLVC Tournament. The Hawks won that game 9-8 over the Miners. In postseason play, Quincy is 4-1 all-time against S&T. The only Miners win came on May 22, 2016, in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional, as S&T won 9-8.
All-time against the Prairie Stars, S&T is 16-21 dating back to 2011. Illinois Springfield is on a 13-game winning streak against Missouri S&T, with the last S&T win on May 10, 2018. These teams faced each other on Wednesday in the GLVC Tournament opening game. S&T fell 10-3 to the Prairie Stars. In GLVC Tournaments, S&T holds a 2-1 record over UIS.
About the Hawks
#6 Quincy is 26-25 this season with an 18-14 record in the GLVC. Before the GLVC Tournament, they swept Truman from May 1-3 on the road. In the GLVC Tournament, they topped #3 Maryville 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Kobe Essien earned his fourth win of the season in that game with six punchouts over 6 2/3 innings.
Matt Mateo and Roman Harrison were both named to the All-GLVC First Team this season. Ben Dahlof and Essien were All-GLVC Honorable Mentions. Dahlof leads the team with his .388 batting average. Mateo has a 1.097 OPS with 14 home runs and 55 RBI this season. Quincy was picked to finish in third place in the GLVC this season.
About the Prairie Stars
#2 Illinois Springfield is 34-15 with a 23-8 record in the GLVC this season. Their last series loss came on Mar. 14-16 against Indianapolis. Since then, they have won every series in the GLVC and in non-conference play. Last weekend, they topped McKendree 3-1 in a four-game series. Ivan Dahlberg homered twice for UIS in their 10-3 win over S&T.
UIS is led by Matt Kattula with his .402 batting average and league-leading 78 hits. He leads the team with his 18 doubles and 48 RBI. On the power side, Ivan Dahlberg has 16 home runs and Noah Caceres has 11. On the pitching side, Mark Decicco has a 4.02 ERA and 70 strikeouts to lead the team. They were picked to finish sixth in the GLVC.
About the Miners
#7 Missouri S&T is coming off a 5-4 win against #3 Maryville on Thursday afternoon. In that game,
Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto),
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) and
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) all recorded two hits.
Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) pitched five scoreless innings. They won that game after a five-hour rain delay in the sixth inning.
Beckham leads the team with his .394 batting average and 1.170 OPS. He is slugging .661 this season.
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) has a .382 batting average with 31 stolen bases in 33 attempts. Bates leads the team with his 3.88 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings.
Jake Schisler (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame) has a 4.43 ERA. Meyer earned his first win of the season and improved his ERA to 2.70 against Maryville.
