ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Baseball will continue the NCAA DII Midwest Regional against Lewis on Friday at 10 a.m.
Series History
In their all-time history, Lewis is 12-11 against Missouri S&T. The Miners are on a seven game losing streak against the Flyers, with their last win on Apr. 2, 2022, in Rolla. These two teams have faced off once in postseason action. Lewis defeated S&T 4-3 in the GLVC Tournament on May 12, 2023. Lewis' two-run ninth inning in that game gave them the win to advance in the tournament.
About the Flyers
The Flyers are 36-17 this season with a 24-8 record in the GLVC. While they won the GLVC Regular Season Title, they were eliminated in the GLVC Tournament early on. Lewis fell to Missouri-St. Louis in the first round 8-7 and to Drury 4-3 to end their GLVC Tournament run. Lewis' highlight wins of the season was a 4-0 sweep over #11 Davenport.
On Thursday, they fell to Northwood with a final score of 9-6. After they put up five runs in the seventh inning to take a 6-3 lead, the Timberwolves recorded six runs in the final two innings to top the Flyers. Mikey Kocen was named the GLVC Player of the Year this season, while Brendan Lawry won the Pitcher of the Year honor. Lewis goes into this game on a five-game losing streak going back to May 3.
About the Miners
After their loss to (2) Grand Valley State on Thursday, the Miners go into this game with a 32-24 overall record. The Miners won their first GLVC Championship in program history last week after losing the first game to Illinois Springfield. They rattled off five straight wins to win the championship. In the 2016 season, S&T lost the first game of the NCAA DII Midwest Regional but then won four-straight contests to make the regional championship.
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) leads the Miners with a .390 batting average and 37 stolen bases in 40 attempts.
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) has a 1.085 OPS, seven doubles, three triples and seven home runs this season. In S&T's loss against Grand Valley State,
Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) went 3-for-4 with a single, one double and a homer. He drove in three runs and came across twice.
Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) leads the team with his 3.97 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings. The Miners have won five of their last six games going into this matchup with Lewis.
