MARION, Ill. – Missouri S&T Baseball is heading to the GLVC Championship for the first time in program history after their two wins against UMSL.
Miners 6, Tritons 4 (12 innings)
In a 12-inning contest, Missouri S&T topped Missouri-St. Louis to start their first of two games against the Tritons.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning where the Tritons took a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, the Miners tied the game at 1-1.
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) walked and stole second.
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) singled to center field to tie the score. Missouri-St. Louis took a 2-1 lead in the home half.
Starter
Jake Schisler (Quincy, IL/Quincy Notre Dame) gave up two runs, one earned, on five hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander struck out five.
Nick Currie (Granville, IL/Putnam County) tossed a scoreless 1 2/3 innings.
S&T tied the game once again in the eighth inning.
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) led off the frame with a hit by pitch.
Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) walked and
Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) put down a bunt to advance the runners.
Jackson Evans (Overland Park, KS/Olathe North) tied the game at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly. UMSL took a 3-2 lead in the bottom half. In the ninth, Meyer walked and
Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) was hit by a pitch. Cizek singled to make the score 3-3.
Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) surrendered a run in one inning and
Jacob Cook (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka Community) fanned two in a scoreless frame. Meyer was charged with a run in 2 2/3 innings.
Following a scoreless 10
th inning, both teams put up one run a piece in the 11
th.
Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) singled and Beckham advanced him with a sacrifice bunt. Cizek singled to right field to make the score 4-3.
The Miners put away the Tritons in the 12
th inning with two runs.
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) singled and went to second on an error.
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) walked and Krodinger singled to load the bases. Beckham singled to shortstop, followed by a Meyer sacrifice fly to give Missouri S&T a 6-4 lead.
Bode Gebbink (Saint Joseph, IL/Saint Joseph-Ogden) earned his second win of the season after he pitched a scoreless 1/3 of an inning.
Zander Street (Festus, MO/St. Pius X) earned his first collegiate save with a 1-2-3 12
th inning.
Krodinger went 3-for-7 with one run scored. Beckham and Cizek both recorded two hits. S&T totaled 11 hits and nine walks.
S&T was running on the bases in this game. Baugus and Cizek both stole two bags, while Beckham had one.
With the win, the Miners advance to play in the semifinals game against Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.
Miners 8, Tritons 1
Missouri S&T advanced to play in the GLVC Championship with a dominating 8-1 win over Missouri-St. Louis.
Baugus led off the first inning with a single and Smith walked. Krodinger put down a bunt to advance them. Beckham walked and Meyer's hit by pitch scored a run.
In the third, the Miners scored two runs to go up 3-0. Baugus singled and Smith doubled to start the frame. Beckham's groundout scored a run and Meyer's single made it 3-0.
Street started the game for S&T and threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He earned his first collegiate win for the Miners.
The Miners doubled their lead with three more runs in the sixth.
Tyler Bizzle (Festus, MO/Festus) and Baugus both walked to start the frame. A passed ball advanced both runners and Smith's singled plated both runs. Meyer singled to make the score 6-0 later in the inning.
After the Tritons scored one in the eighth, the Miners collected two more runs in the home half. Beckham singled and Meyer's bunt forced an UMSL error to bring two runners in scoring position. Damgaard singled up the middle to make the score 8-1.
Reliever
Lucas Riebeling (Columbia, IL/Columbia) held down the bullpen for S&T as he threw 3 1/3 innings with one run yielded. He saved his second game of the 2025 season.
Smith was 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Meyer and Damgaard both recorded three hits and two RBI. Baugus collected two hits, two walks and three runs. The Miners recorded 13 hits and seven walks.
Smith took two bags for the Miners.
Missouri S&T will advance to its first GLVC Championship in program history. Head coach
Todd DeGraffenreid also earned his 500
th career win as the head coach for the Miners on Saturday. He will coach in his first ever GLVC Championship on Sunday.
What's Next
The Miners will take on #2 Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. It will be their second time facing the Prairie Stars in this tournament, with their first game on Wednesday night at Mtn Dew Park.
