BOLIVAR, Mo. – Missouri S&T Golf placed second in stroke play at the GLVC Championships to qualify for the semifinals against Lewis.
S&T started out on day one with a combined score of 303 for eighth place.
Cole Komyati (Elberta, AL/Bayside Academy) led the Miners with his score of 72 in a rainy day one.
On the second day, Missouri S&T staged a comeback as they shot a 284 to move up into the top four. Komyati led the Miners once again with his score of 70.
Connor Benjamin (Nelson Bay, Australia/St. Philip's Christian College) recorded a 71, while Nicoles Eroles tabbed a 71 and
Rizq Adam Rohizam (Selangor, Malaysia/Robert Louis Stevenson) collected a 72.
The Miners kept their consistency in round three with another 284 to place in second. Komyati's score of 72 placed him in third place overall. Benjmain shot a 69 to finish in 12
th place. Rohizam recorded 19
th, Eroles was in 28
th and
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) rounded out the starters in 33
rd place. Individually,
Joey Friedel (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) placed 43
rd with his score of 229. Eroles led the field with 16 birdies, while Benjmain was second with his 13.
Komyati earned All-GLVC honors with his third-place trophy. Lewis' Cody Donovan took home first place with his score of 210.
With the second-place finish, the Miners qualified for match play on Tuesday. They will play Lewis on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. The winner of that match will play the winner of Missouri-St. Louis and Indianapolis on Tuesday afternoon.
What's Next
Following the GLVC Championships on Tuesday, the NCAA DII Midwest/Central Super Regional is slated for May 8-10. If the Miners make it, it will be played at St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Missouri.
