Season-Best 25 Runs vs Lincoln Leads to S&T Sweep

JEFFERSON CITY, MO  --  The Miners scored a total of 25 runs vs the Lincoln Blue Tigers in yesterday's doubleheader, a season-high, giving S&T wins of 15-4 and 10-7.

Game 1: Missouri S&T 15, Lincoln 4
Both teams put runners on base in the 1st, but it was not until the 2nd that the first run would make it home. The Blue Tigers were the first to score, getting a pair of base runners with a walk and a double to set up a run later in the inning on an S&T throwing error. A lead off double by Keira Jones (Richmond Hill, GA/Richmond Hill) to start the 3rd put the Miners in good position early. They would record three more doubles as well as a single and a triple in the inning, totaling 6 hits and 6 runs in the inning. A triple and a homer by Lincoln would cut the Miners' lead to just three in the bottom half of the inning though.

Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Miners in the top of the 5th, setting the stage for an inside the park grand slam by Kaylee LaChappell (Oswego, IL/) that extended S&T's  lead to 10-3. A solo homerun by Taylor Nelson (Jefferson City, MO/Phillips Exeter Academy) in the 6th would be answered by the Blue Tigers in the bottom of the inning with a solo homer of their own, making it 11-4. LaChappell continued her strong game at the plate in the 7th, getting an early RBI triple to start a four-run inning for the Miners that made it a 15-4 game as the Miners held on for their second-widest margin of victory of the season.

Game 2: Missouri S&T 10, Lincoln 7
Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) got the scoring underway in game two win a two-run homer to give S&T the early lead. She would hit another in the top of the 2nd, bringing three runs home this time to extended the Miners' lead to five. A single RBI by Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/) would add one more run for the Miners in the top of the 3rd, taking the score to 6-0. An error by the Miners in 4th allowed the Blue Tigers to finally get on the board, putting up 2 runs in the inning. Lincoln would allow a run off an error in the next inning though, making it 7-2.

A run in the 5th, along with a four-hit 6th inning would help Lincoln cut the deficit to just one run, making it a 7-6 game entering the 7th. The Miners loaded the bases with only one out on the board in the final inning, leading to all three baserunners scoring in the next two at bats to push S&T's lead to 10-6. A solo home run gave Lincoln life early in the bottom of the 7th. They would get two more on base in hte inning, putting the tying run at the plate before a fly out to center field ended the game at 10-7 in favor of the Miners.

Anderson went 4-for-7 on the day with 4 runs, 7 RBIs, and 2 home runs, while LaChappell's 2-for-4 performance in game one gave her 5 RBIs, 3 runs, and a grand slam.
