Miners Go 0-2 vs Hounds; Miller Records Personal-Best 11 Strikeouts

ROLLA, MO  --  Missouri S&T softball fell in both games of today's doubleheader against the Indianapolis Greyhounds with scores of 3-1 and 6-3. Despite the loss, Mia Miller (Waterloo, IL/) set a personal-best 11 strikeouts in game one of the doubleheader, with the first nine outs of the game coming on strikeouts from #9.

Game 1: Indianapolis 3, Missouri S&T 1
After scoreless first and second innings, the Greyhounds were the 1st to get on the board, capitalizing on a pair of S&T errors to bring one runner home unearned and take a 1-0 lead. The Miners remained scoreless through the first four innings, but were not without some offensive success, getting hits from Kaylee LaChappell (Oswego, IL/), Joselyn Ulloa (Chicago, IL/), and Taylor Nelson (Jefferson City, MO/Phillips Exeter Academy). S&T would tie the game in the bottom of the 5th, after a lead off single by Autumn Trower (Troy, MO/) led to a her scoring two at bats later on a fielder's choice play.

Indianapolis took the lead again in the next inning, using two doubles and a walk to add two runs to make it a 3-1 game. S&T was unable to catch up, going through the final two innings without a hit to fall 3-1.

Game 2: Indianapolis 6, Missouri S&T 3
The 1st inning was the highest scoring of the day, with a total of five runs being scored. A single, a walk, and a single put up the first run of the game early in the 1st with only one out. UIndy's Josie Jager would add two more runs with a double to left center near the end of the 1st, extending the Hounds' lead to 3-0. A lead off single by LaChappell would set the Miners up for their first run of the day off a Trista Grobe (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) triple. A single by Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/) would bring Grobe home in the next at bat, making it 3-2 heading into the top of the 2nd.

S&T would fall behind by four runs in the next two innings, with the Greyhounds taking advantage of a handful of Miner errors to stretch their lead to 6-2. Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) started off the 6th with a double to deep left, leading to Macy Wilderson (Kansas City, MO/St. Pius X) stepping in to pinch run. A single up the middle by Grobe would be just enough to bring Wilderson home, making it a 6-3 game. The Miners couldn't get anything rolling offensively in their final six at bats of the game though, resulting in their second loss of the day.
