EDMOND, OK -- The Miners lost both of their games today, both against ranked teams. Game one ended in a 7-1 loss to #9 Rogers State Hillcats, while the second game was a 10-2 loss to #25 Central Oklahoma.
#9 Rogers State 7, Missouri S&T 1
A pair of doubles in the top of the first inning gave Rogers a 1-0 lead. They extended that lead in the next inning, hitting a two-run homer and an RBI single to go ahead 4-0. Keira Jones (Richmond Hill, GA/Richmond Hill) hit her second home run of the season in the bottom of the third, giving the Miners their only run of the game and making it 4-1.
Trista Grobe (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) reached scoring position in the next inning, advancing all the way to third base before being left stranded. The Hillcats added three more runs between the fifth and sixth innings off two more home runs, extending their lead to bring the score to the final 7-1 result.
#25 Central Oklahoma 10, Missouri S&T 2
A trio of singles in the opening inning gave S&T a 1-0 lead, courtesy of an RBI single by Allie Kelly (Park Hills, MO/Central). UCO scored two on an RBI single in the bottom of the first, taking the lead at 2-1. Two singles and a triple by the Bronchos made for a five-run inning in the second, bringing UCO's lead to 7-1.
Taylor Nelson's (Jefferson City, MO/) second home run of the season came in the top of the third, making it a 7-2 game. Singles by Sydney Anderson (Elkhart, IA/North Polk) and Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/) set up the Miners with runners on first and second before a groundout into a double play cut the inning short. Central Oklahoma's double and triple in the bottom of the third gave them a 10-2 lead, which they maintained as neither team scored for the rest of the game.
