ROLLA, MO – Missouri S&T grabbed their first home win of the season today in a 3-0 sweep of the Central State Marauders. The team recorded a season-high eight service aces, with Jordan Orr (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) contributing three of them.
Set 1
After a close start to the match, kills from Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) sparked a four-point run that gave the Miners a 9-5 lead. They quickly extended their advantage with four straight kills, pushing the score to 13-6. The Miners then traded points with CSU for a stretch, but closed the set on a 7-1 run, with back-to-back aces by Grant Edmonds (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) giving S&T the first set, 25-12.
Set 2
The Marauders took their first significant lead of the match at 12-9, utilizing a pair of three-point runs to get there. However, the Miners quickly erased the deficit, winning four of the next five points to tie the game at 13-all. Neither team led by more than two points for the remainder of the set, with S&T emerging victorious after Meyer recorded a pair of kills in the final points to take the set 26-24.
Set 3
A trio of kills by Tyler Johnwick (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) started a seven-point run for the Miners at the beginning of the third set, putting them ahead 9-2. That wasn't S&T's longest run of the set, though, as they went on to score eight consecutive points, with Orr contributing three aces during the stretch. Up 19-4, the Miners gave up a 3-0 run but were never threatened by CSU in the final points, closing out the sweep with another 25-12 set victory.
Notable Performances
- Sallade: Led the team in both kills and blocks with 10 and 2.
- Owen Price (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore): Started at the Libero position for the first time this season, performing well with several key saves. He recorded 7 digs and added 6 assists.
- Team Effort: Twelve different Miners recorded points today, the most in a match since February 9, 2024, against Talladega.
What's Next
The Miners are set to face LeMoyne-Owen in Memphis, Tennessee, on Saturday the 22nd, before returning home to play Maryville on the 26th.
