JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball dropped their contest at Lincoln 53-61 on Thursday night.
In a slow first quarter, the Blue Tigers outscored the Miners 10-4. S&T went out to a 4-0 lead in the first minute and a half until Lincoln went on a 10-0 run the rest of the way.
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) and
Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) both recorded two points for S&T.
Lincoln increased their lead to 24-16 at halftime following a 14-12 second quarter.
Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) broke the 10-0 run with a layup until Biance Stocks drained a three-pointer. At the midway point of the quarter,
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) made it a seven-point game with a layup. After a Kiara Cabrera three-point shot made, Gum made a jumper in the last seconds to make the deficit eight points at halftime.
Out of the halftime break, Lincoln put up 21 points to 15 for Missouri S&T. Lincoln went out to a 7-0 run to start the half for a 31-16 lead.
Morgan Luebbering (St. Thomas, MO/Fatima) and
Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) both responded with two points each, but Stocks drained five straight points for the Blue Tigers. S&T's 10-2 run at the end of the quarter began a comeback as they were down 14 points with 10 minutes left in the game.
The Miners outscored the Blue Tigers 22-16 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as Lincoln won the game 61-53. Finley drained a three-pointer to begin the quarter to make it 34-45. Finley hit another one with 6:38 left in the game to cut the Lincoln lead to seven points. She put in two more midway through the quarter, making the score 45-48 with 4:23 left in the game. Roberts tied the game with 2:48 left until a Lincoln 7-0 run. They won the game 61-53 over S&T.
Finley led the game with 25 points on 8-for-14 field goal shooting and 5-for-11 three-point shooting. She added eight rebounds for S&T. Roberts and Gum both tallied seven points and five rebounds.
Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) had a career-high five steals for the Miners.
As a team, S&T shot 32.7% from the field and 22.7% from three-point range. They tallied 22 points in the paint and 15 points off turnovers. The Miners collected 37 total rebounds and nine steals against Lincoln.
With one game to go, the Miners have already clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament next weekend.
What's Next
Missouri S&T will play in the regular season finale at Drury on Saturday at 1 p.m. They defeated the Panthers 63-57 at Gibson Arena back on Jan. 11. The GLVC Tournament is scheduled for Mar. 6-9 at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
