Miners Fall at Rockhurst, Two Games Left in Regular Season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball fell to Rockhurst on the road on Saturday afternoon with two games remaining in the regular season.

The Miners lost the first quarter 19-15 to begin the game. Rockhurst held an early 8-2 lead, but S&T brought it back to 8-10 midway through the quarter. The Hawks went up by six points until the Miners were able to bring it down to four at the end of the quarter.

In the second, Missouri S&T outscored Rockhurst 12-11 to make the score 27-30 at halftime. Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) helped the Miners to just a one-point deficit with 3:58 left in the quarter before the Hawks went up 30-25. Roberts hit two free throws at the end of the half to make the score 27-30 after 20 minutes.
 
Rockhurst won the third quarter 18-15 over S&T. Keegan Sullivan set the tone with a three-pointer early until Roberts and Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) made it a two-point contest. Chloe Frank drained a three-pointer and Sullivan hit another one with 3:56 left in the quarter. With an eight-point deficit, S&T recorded five straight points until Sullivan hit a three-pointer at the end of the quarter to make the score 42-48.

S&T outscored Rockhurst 18-17 in the fourth quarter but lost the game 60-65 at Rockhurst. Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) tied the game with a three-point shot made with 8:19 left. At a 52-52 tie, Sullivan made a three-point shot that would turn into a 57-53 lead for the Hawks. With a 55-61 deficit, Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) cut it in half with 51 seconds left. Rockhurst hit free throws at the end of the game to top the Miners 65-60.
 
Roberts led the Miners with 14 points and four blocks. She added four rebounds on 6-for-11 shooting. Metz tallied 10 points on 2-for-3 shooting from beyond the arc. On the glass, Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) grabbed seven rebounds with her seven points. Morgan Luebbering (St. Thomas, MO/Fatima) had six points and seven rebounds, while Anna Gilbertson (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) collected eight points and three rebounds off the bench.

The Miners shot 43.4% from the field and 4-for-16 from three-point range. They outrebounded Rockhurst 39-34 and had 28 points in the paint. S&T tallied six blocks and six steals against the Hawks.

This loss ended a four-game winning streak for the Miners. It is their first loss since Feb. 6 at Quincy as S&T put themselves in a position in the GLVC Tournament on their four-game winning streak.  

What's Next

The Miners will play in their last regular season home weekend of the 2024-25 season next weekend at Lincoln and Drury. S&T will play the Blue Tigers on Feb. 27 at 5:30 p.m., followed by the season finale against the Panthers on Mar. 1 at 1 p.m. The GLVC Tournament is scheduled for Mar. 6-9 in St. Charles, Mo.
