BOLIVAR, MO — Missouri S&T defeated Southwest Baptist 67-54 this evening, extending their win streak to four and improving to 10-7 in conference.
The Miners went up by eight early in the game, leading 13-5 in the first four minutes. They would extend their lead to ten after a four-minute scoring drought by both teams, but a 9-0 run by SBU quickly brought it to a one-point game before the end of the first quarter. S&T worked to rebuild their lead, but the Bearcats would hit a couple of threes to keep it a one possession game early in the second quarter. However, a three-pointer by
Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) started a 10-2 Miners run that put the visitors up 32-22 before the half.
A successful "and one" by
Anna Gilbertson (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) early in the third gave the Miners a sixteen-point lead, that would grow to a game-high 20 points in the final seconds of the third. The Bearcats cut S&T's lead down to 14 early in the final quarter but the Miners never allowed them a foothold and held on to win 67-54.
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) led the team in scoring with 15 points and was one of four Miners to score in double digits.
Morgan Luebbering (St. Thomas, MO/Fatima) had a team-best 75% field goal percentage, going 6-for-8 and scoring 13 points.
