ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball downed Truman on Saturday night 70-67 in overtime to celebrate Senior Day.
The Miners won the first half 18-15 over the Bulldogs. Midway through the quarter, Truman held a 10-4 lead until
Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) drained a three-pointer. She gave S&T a lead with 1:26 left and recorded her 12
th point of the game at the end of the quarter with a layup.
S&T went into halftime with a four-point lead after they outscored Truman 15-14 in the second quarter.
Ava Maner (Rogers, AR/Providence Academy) drained a three-pointer to give the Miners their largest lead of the night at six points. Following three consecutive Truman points, Finley hit a three-pointer and
Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) tallied three points to make the score 29-20 with 3:31 left. Finley hit another three-point shot until Truman put up four points at the end of the quarter made the score 33-29.
The Bulldogs made a comeback in the third quarter after they won it 18-9. With a seven-point lead, the Bulldogs staged a comeback and eventually took a 42-40 lead with 2:13 left. Molly Joyce hit a three-point shot and a layup near the end of the quarter to give Truman a 47-42 lead with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
S&T responded with a 17-12 fourth quarter to send the game into overtime. The Bulldogs went out to an eight-point lead until a 9-0 run gave the Miners a 53-52 advantage. At the end of the quarter,
Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) guided the Miners as she tied the game with a free throw. With a 59-59 tie, the Miners and Bulldogs went into overtime.
Both teams went back-and-forth in overtime until the end when the Miners defense stood tall.
Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) landed two free throws before Metz made it 70-67. That score held as Lexie White missed a potential game-tying three-point shot. The Miners won the game 70-67 in their last home game of the season.
Finley put up 24 points for the Miners on 4-for-10 three-point shooting and five rebounds. Between her last three games, Finley is averaging 27.6 points per game. Roberts recorded 19 points and eight rebounds. Gum collected nine points, four rebounds and three assists. Metz tallied seven rebounds with two steals.
The Miners shot 37.1% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc. However, they outrebounded the Bulldogs 46-34 and 15-6 on the offensive side. Missouri S&T collected 32 points in the paint and 17 points off turnovers. They also had 41 bench points.
Roberts became the 18
th member of the Missouri S&T 1,000-point club after Saturday's game. The Miners also closed out their home season with a 10-5 record. It is their first 10-win season at Gibson Arena since the 2011-12 season.
S&T celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon for the final game at home this season. The senior class for the Miners was honored after the game for the contributions they have made as a Missouri S&T student-athlete.

The Miners are back in action on Feb. 20 at Southwest Baptist at 5:30 p.m. Following that contest, they will go to Rockhurst on Feb. 22 at 12 p.m.
