Finley's 30 Points, Miners 11 Blocks Down Cardinals

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball, guided by Anna Finley's (Owensville, MO/Owensville) 30 points, topped William Jewell 71-64 on Thursday.

The Cardinals held a 16-14 lead after the first quarter. Kirsten Hauck drained a three-pointer with 4:22 left to give William Jewell an 11-4 lead. Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) responded with a three-pointer and another one with 2:21 left to cut the lead to 10-11. Morgan Luebbering (St. Thomas, MO/Fatima) had four points at the end of the quarter to make the deficit two points after 10 minutes.

At halftime, the Cardinals led by five points at 34-29. Finley tied the game until the Cardinals went on an 8-0 run midway through the quarter. Anna Gilbertson (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) cut it to 21-26 until Paris Opelt hit a three-pointer. The Miners recorded a 6-0 run, but William Jewell went into the locker room with a five-point lead.
 
S&T flipped the script in the second half as they won the third quarter 21-11. Finley collected 10 points in the quarter as she gave S&T a 42-41 lead with 4:12 left. At a three-point deficit, Finley hit a three-point shot and Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) put in a jumper. Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) made it 50-45 after the third quarter.

The Miners won the fourth quarter 21-19 to win the game 71-64. Kate Hillyer tied the game with a three-pointer until Finley drained another three-point shot. That started a 14-0 run for the Miners to give them a 64-50 lead. The Cardinals attempted a comeback but came up short as the Miners won the game 71-64.
 
Finley picked up a career-high 30 points for the Miners. She just had a career-high in the last game at 29 points but broke it on Thursday. She shot 9-for-14 from the field and 5-for-7 from three-point range. She also added six rebounds.

Roberts had a double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Kent went 3-for-6 from beyond the arc for her nine points. Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) picked up eight points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists.

The team shot 41.8% from the field. They shot 47.4% from three-point distance at 9-for-19. The Miners picked up 26 points in the paint and 43 total rebounds. S&T's 11 blocks were one away from tying a program record.

The win put the Miners up to sixth place in the GLVC over McKendree. They also improved to 9-5 at home with one more game at Gibson Arena on Saturday.

What's Next

The Miners are back in action for Senior Day on Saturday against Truman at 1 p.m. Following that game, they will go to Southwest Baptist on Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
