ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's basketball team will look to rebound from its first loss of the season Tuesday night as it returns to Gibson Arena to take on Westminster in a 6 p.m. contest.
Tuesday's game is the final home game for the Miners in the 2025 calendar year – their next home contest will be on Jan. 2 against William Jewell – and comes on the heels of an 87-80 loss Saturday at Upper Iowa that snapped S&T's five-game winning streak to begin the campaign. It will be the first of two games on the Miner slate this week, as they will play Saturday at Northwest Missouri State.
The Miners won twice on the road to open Great Lakes Valley Conference play last week, winning by 12 at Lincoln and 10 at Quincy, but was unable to hang onto a second half lead Saturday as it dropped the early showdown at Upper Iowa. The Miners were ranked fifth in last week's National Association of Basketball Coaches' poll, but are expected to drop down the list when the new rankings are released Tuesday.
Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) tied his career scoring high with 26 points in Saturday's contest and leads the Miners in scoring heading into the Westminster contest with an average of 16.2 points per game, a mark that has home among the top 10 scorers in the GLVC. He is one of four Miners scoring in double figures on the year, as
Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) is at 14.5 points per game,
Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) is at 13.5 per game and
Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) is scoring 11.7 per contest.
Stovall is the Miners' top rebounder with 7.7 per game and is shooting 54.1 percent from the field – second to Young's mark of 58.3 percent – while Beauchamp has a team-leading 20 assists and Benassi has knocked down 12 three-pointers to lead the way.
Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia), meanwhile, leads the GLVC with 16 steals.
Missouri S&T comes into Tuesday's game averaging 82.2 points per game to rank third in the conference in that department, while leading the league in scoring margin (plus 14.5 points per game) and blocked shots (four per game). All five of the Miner wins this season have come by double figure margins.
ABOUT WESTMINSTER: The Blue Jays are coming off their best offensive performance of the season, pouring in a season-high 96 points in a 96-79 victory over Eureka on Saturday. Walker Gohring scored a game-high 26 points to lead the way, while Westminster also got 18 points from Kolton Garner and 17 from Jamile Johnson.
That trio tops the scoring list for the Blue Jays, with Gohring's 16.4 points per game leading the way. Garner comes into the game with an average of 12.6 points per game and a team-high 20 three-point baskets, while Johnson is scoring 11.4 points per game and is also averaging 8.3 rebounds per game to share the team lead in that category with Gavin Hendrix.
Westminster opened the year with losses in five of its first six games, but has won back-to-back contests to bring a 3-5 record into Tuesday's matchup.
