Women's Basketball Fourth-Quarter Push Falls Short at Upper Iowa

FAYETTE, Iowa – Missouri S&T women's basketball mounted a strong fourth-quarter surge but came up just short in a 61-56 road loss to Upper Iowa on Saturday afternoon at Dorman Memorial Gym.

After trailing early, the Miners (3-4, 1-2 GLVC) clawed their way back into the game behind improved defensive pressure and consistent scoring inside. S&T outscored the Peacocks 20-18 in the final frame and cut the deficit to five in the closing minute, fueled by baskets from Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) and Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville), but Upper Iowa held on at the free-throw line.

Gum delivered a standout performance with 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Finley added 12 points, five assists, and three steals, while Ava McCulla (St. Louis, MO/Parkway South) anchored the frontcourt with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. Savannah Campbell (Rolla, MO/Rolla) provided key minutes off the bench, adding eight points and four rebounds.

The Miners dominated inside, scoring 40 points in the paint and grabbing 38 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass, to create second-chance opportunities. S&T also generated 11 points off turnovers while holding Upper Iowa to just 36.7 percent shooting from the field.
