ROLLA, MO – Missouri S&T men's basketball will return to Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play this week, hosting William Jewell on Friday and Truman State on Sunday. S&T remains ranked #17 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll and holds an 8-2 record through their first 10 games.
About the Miners
S&T's last two games before the Christmas break came during a trip to Las Vegas for the Great Western Shootout. Missouri S&T defeated Simon Fraser 71-68 before falling to Western Washington 83-76 at the event. Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) and Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) both turned in strong performances at the Shootout, earning All-Tournament Team honors.
The Miners lead the GLVC in scoring margin, averaging 82.0 points per game while allowing just 66.7. Their 41.9 rebounds per game rank first in the conference and 22nd nationally among Division II programs. Young remains S&T's leading scorer, averaging 16.2 points per game, which ranks 10th in the GLVC. He also sits 4th in the conference in field-goal percentage (55.4%) and 10th in blocks per game (0.9). Stovall leads the Miners in rebounding, ranking fifth in the GLVC with 7.6 rebounds per game.
About the Cardinals
William Jewell enters the week with a 5-6 overall record and is 1-2 in GLVC play. The Cardinals are riding a two-game winning streak after December victories over Ottawa University and Northwest Missouri State. Defense has been a strength for Jewell this season, as opponents have eclipsed 80 points just twice. The Cardinals rank fifth in the GLVC in scoring defense, allowing 68.9 points per game.
Justice Sutton leads William Jewell with 17.6 points per game, ranking eighth in the conference. He is also ninth in the GLVC in blocks per game, recording eight blocks across nine games. Sutton and Bradley Lightbourne have combined for 68 points over the last two games, helping fuel the Cardinals' current winning streak.
About the Bulldogs
Truman State is 4-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs recently snapped a four-game losing streak with a 100-91 victory over Missouri Western, a team that was receiving votes in the NABC poll. The win was highlighted by a 33-point performance from Jahki Parrinello. Truman boasts one of the top offenses in the GLVC, averaging 79.9 points per game, but carries a negative scoring margin after allowing 81.4 points per contest, the second-worst defensive average in the conference.
Emmanuel Byrd leads the Bulldogs—and the GLVC—in shooting percentage at 63.9%, more than seven percentage points higher than the next closest player in the league. He also ranks second in the conference in rebounds per game at 9.3. Parrinello paces Truman offensively with 18.1 points per game, which ranks sixth in the GLVC.
