Women’s Basketball Battles Back but Falls Late to Thomas More in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Missouri S&T women's basketball dropped its first game of the season Saturday afternoon, falling 59-48 to Thomas More in the final game of the Midwest Region Crossover at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

After trailing by 11 following the opening quarter, the Miners (1-1) responded with a dominant second frame, outscoring Thomas More 21-6 to take a 28-24 lead into halftime. However, the Saints reclaimed momentum in the fourth quarter, outscoring S&T 20-5 down the stretch to seal the win.

Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) led the Miners with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Ava McCulla (St. Louis, MO/Parkway South) recorded nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) added eight points and two steals, and Savannah Campbell (Rolla, MO/Rolla) provided a spark off the bench with five points and three assists.

Despite shooting struggles from deep, S&T held its own inside, finishing with a 36-35 edge on the boards and scoring 26 points in the paint.

Missouri S&T returns to action Saturday, November 22, at Emporia State, with tipoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
