Miners close 2025 home slate Saturday in tilt with William Jewell

10/30/2025 9:00:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's football team will play at home for the final time in the 2025 season Saturday, hosting William Jewell College in a 1 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference contest at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

Saturday's game will be the Miners' annual Military Appreciation Day – all military members, active or retired, and their immediate families will be admitted free with a military I.D. card.

The Miners suffered a tough 31-30 loss Saturday at Quincy, dropping them to 4-5 overall and 2-4 in GLVC play.  S&T held leads on four different occasions during the game, but a blocked punt in the fourth quarter led to Quincy's go-ahead touchdown and the Miners were unable to score on either of their last two possessions.

William Jewell lost its sixth straight contest Saturday when it fell 28-10 to Upper Iowa.  The Cardinals trailed 14-10 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Peacocks pulled away in the final period to drop Jewell to 2-6 on the season and 0-5 in the GLVC.

ABOUT THE MINERS: Missouri S&T fell short in its effort to move above the .500 mark Saturday as Quincy came away with the one-point victory over the Miners.  S&T outgained the Hawks by a 424-to-368 margin, had an advantage of better than three minutes on time of possession and allowed only four successful third down conversions, but were done in by missed opportunities throughout the afternoon.

Quarterback Jake Farrell (Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep) threw for 354 yards in the loss and enters play Saturday with 2,408 yards on the season, a total that ranks fourth in NCAA Division II.  He has also completed 60 percent of his throws (204-of-340) and has 21 touchdowns passes, eight of them going to Reid Weber (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) after he hauled in two of his three scoring tosses on Saturday.

Weber has a team-leading 34 receptions for 450 yards and the eight touchdowns, while Brennen Taranto (Weston, FL/Western) and Justis Braden (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) have 31 receptions apiece and Tyler Gioia (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) has caught 28 balls that includes four scoring receptions.  Sam Ryan (Columbia, MO/Father Tolton), who had the third touchdown reception, has 445 yards on 25 catches and two touchdowns.

Evan Wells (Roxana, IL/Roxana) has a team-high 478 yards on the ground and has scored three touchdowns; he is currently ranked fifth in the conference in rushing.   S&T is averaging 104.3 yards per game on the ground as opposed to 285.7 in the air – third-best in the conference – as it is posting 390.8 yards per game overall.

The S&T defense is paced by Seneca Bradley (Clarksville, TN/Rossview) Jr., who leads the team in tackles with 64 and Cameron Sturgell's (Lamar, MO/Lamar) 58 stops after making 10 tackles on Sunday.  Bentley Hart (Brookland, AR/Brookland) leads S&T with 12 tackles behind the line of scrimmage which ranks fourth in the GLVC and has added 3.5 sacks which is second to Bradley's four.  Christian Kemp (Madison, AL/Bob Jones), who has 6.5 tackles for a loss, has recorded three sacks of his own this season as the Miners have reached the quarterback 17 times this season.

ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL: The Cardinals opened the 2025 season with back-to-back victories, but have since lost six games in succession and all five of their GLVC contests.  Jewell played Upper Iowa tight for the better part of their contest on Saturday, but the Peacocks scored two touchdowns in the final 10 minutes to pull away in an eventual 28-10 decision in Liberty.

Quarterback Tyler Kubat threw his 11th touchdown pass of the season Saturday and has completed 61.3 percent of his throws for 1,482 yards on the year.  Seven Cardinals have caught at least 10 passes, led by the 27 hauled in by Nate Barnett for a team-leading 442 yards and five touchdowns.  Reece Thomas has 23 receptions on the season, while AJ Austene has caught 22 balls and Layne Cavanah has made 20 catches; Austene and Cavanah have three touchdowns each.

The Cardinals have rushed for just 86.4 yards per game during the season, a mark that ranks last in the GLVC heading into this weekend's play.  MicahJo Barnett leads the way with 366 yards and four touchdowns, while Ronnie Thomas has recorded 262 yards and a score as the only other Cardinal player with at least 100 yards rushing in the 2025 campaign.

Linebacker Jonny Williams leads Jewell with 50 tackles on the year, while Tyler Craigg has been in on 47 stops.  Defensive lineman Derrick Von Hubbard has nine tackles for a loss and six sacks – both team highs – among his 40 tackles this year, while four different Cardinals have recorded interceptions.
