Women's Soccer Battles Late but Falls 1-0 at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. -- Missouri S&T women's soccer battled back with a strong second-half push but came up just short in a 1-0 road setback to McKendree on Friday night at Leemon Field.

The Bearcats struck in the 15th minute, but from there the Miners settled in and generated a steady attack, finishing with a 12-9 edge in total shots and a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks

Melissa Parker (Chesterfield, MO/Marquette) led the S&T attack with three shots, including one on goal, while Aubrey Case (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) and Lily Simpson (Lexington, KY/Lafayette) each tallied two attempts, forcing the McKendree keeper into key saves. Adriana Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) added two shots of her own, and Caryle Bennett tested the defense with a shot on target late.

In the midfield, Greycen Erisman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) and Savannah Tully (Elkhart, IN/Elkhart) provided stability and kept possession flowing, while the Miner defense, anchored by Grace Kohler (Roca, NE/Norris) and Sarah Henze (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville), limited McKendree to just four second-half shots. Goalkeeper Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) turned in another strong effort with five saves to keep S&T within striking distance.

Despite several late chances, including a penalty kick opportunity in the 73rd minute, the Miners couldn't find the equalizer.

With the result, Missouri S&T moves to 3-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in GLVC play.

What's Next
The Miners will return to action on Sunday, October 5, as they take on Illinois Springfield in another GLVC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
