Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Road Shutout Over Illinois Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Missouri S&T women's soccer earned its second Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) win of the season with a 2-0 shutout over Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon at Kiwanis Stadium.

The Miners (4-4-1, 2-3-1 GLVC) struck early and controlled the match from start to finish. Adriana Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) opened the scoring in the 17th minute, firing home her fifth goal of the season to put S&T on the board. Less than two minutes later, Benassi provided the assist on Allie Workman's (Olathe, KS/Olathe North) goal in the 19th minute, giving the Miners a 2-0 lead they would hold the rest of the way.

Missouri S&T's attack was relentless in the opening half, outshooting the Prairie Stars 11-1 and generating multiple dangerous chances through Lily Simpson (Lexington, KY/Lafayette), Greycen Erisman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West), and Brooke Bendoff (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood). The Miners finished with 12 total shots, seven of them on target, while holding UIS to just four attempts overall.

Goalkeeper Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) secured her second shutout of the season, recording one save behind a strong defensive performance from Grace Kohler (Roca, NE/Norris), Sarah Henze (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville), and Savannah Tully (Elkhart, IN/Elkhart), who limited the Prairie Stars' opportunities throughout the afternoon.

Head Coach Matthew Perry praised the team's performance after the match, saying, "Pleased with the performance. Very professional. We worked very hard without the ball and took our chance well. A clean sheet and a win on the road is hard to come by, so we are delighted."

With the result, Missouri S&T improves to 4-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in GLVC play.

What's Next
The Miners return home to Rolla next Friday, October 10, and Sunday, October 12, to face UIndy and Lewis at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
