Miners head to Quincy Saturday looking for sweep of Illinois contests

10/23/2025 9:00:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T looks to complete a sweep of its two-game stretch in the state of Illinois Saturday as it faces Quincy University in a 1 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference contest on the Hawks' campus.

The Miners evened their record at 4-4 on the season and moved to 2-3 in conference play after a 29-10 win Sunday over McKendree.  After seeing the game get moved to Sunday due to weather that came through the St. Louis area on Saturday, the Miners jumped out to a 22-0 halftime lead as they snapped a three-game losing streak to the Bearcats.

Quincy comes into the game at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC after losing 44-21 at Truman State on Saturday, a game in which the Hawks fell behind 24-0 in the first half of play.  Saturday's game will be just the third home game of the season for Quincy.

ABOUT THE MINERS: Missouri S&T used a strong rushing attack and kept McKendree's potent offensive attack in check to pick up the win on Sunday, as it ran for a season-high 292 yards that included a career-best 196 from Evan Wells (Roxana, IL/Roxana) to help him earn the GLVC's Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Wells scored two touchdowns in the contest, which included a 99-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to seal the win after the S&T defense recorded an interception in the red zone on the previous play.  The 99-yard run was not only the longest running play in school and conference history, but also the longest play from scrimmage in both realms all-time.

Wells enters the week ranked fourth in the GLVC in rushing with 441 yards on the season while quarterback Jake Farrell (Scottsdale, AZ/Notre Dame Prep), who completed16-of-29 throws for 147 yards and a touchdown Sunday, went over the 2,000-yard mark on the season in the contest.  Farrell has completed 60.3 percent of his throws on the year (179-of-297) for 2,054 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Justis Braden (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) leads the Miners on the receiving front with 31 catches for 302 yards and Brennen Taranto (Weston, FL/Western) – who caught the touchdown pass on Sunday – has 30 receptions for 315 yards and three scores.  Reid Weber (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) has a team-leading six touchdown receptions and has hauled in 29 passes for 362 yards, a total that leads the S&T receiving corps.

Defensively, the Miners held McKendree to just 68 yards on the ground and forced three turnovers, including interceptions by Reid Meekins (Houston, TX/Cypress Falls) and Justin Gniedziejko (Chicago, IL/Taft) in the fourth quarter that thwarted any late comeback hopes for the Bearcats.

Seneca Bradley (Clarksville, TN/Rossview) Jr., leads the team in tackles with 60 and Cameron Sturgell (Lamar, MO/Lamar) has recorded 51 stops after making 10 tackles on Sunday.  Bentley Hart (Brookland, AR/Brookland) leads S&T with 11 tackles behind the line of scrimmage which ranks fourth in the GLVC and has added 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles, while Christian Kemp (Madison, AL/Bob Jones), who has five tackles for a loss, has recorded three sacks of his own this season as the Miners have reached the quarterback 15 times this season.

ABOUT QUINCY: The Hawks slipped to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC following a 44-21 loss Saturday at Truman State.  Quincy fell behind 24-0 in the first half as it produced only 67 yards of total offense in that span, but did get three scoring passes from Bradyn Little in the second half as he finished with 311 yards through the air.

Little enters play this week having completed 66.3 percent of his passes on the season (163-of-246) for 1,583 yards and 13 touchdowns.  His leading target has been Kamrin Cox with 37 receptions for 308 yards and three touchdowns; his 37 catches are tied for the second-most in the GLVC.  Jackson Burnett has hauled in 20 passes on the year which includes three scoring catches, while Troy TW Crozier has caught 18 passes for 256 yards.

Cox also leads the Hawks in rushing with 328 yards and has produced four of Quincy's nine rushing touchdowns this year, while also averaging 18.8 yards per kickoff return as he has accumulated a league-leading 744 all-purpose yards.  Quincy is also getting 219 yards on the ground from Aaron Harvey.

Linebacker Brock Wiley heads the Hawk defenders with 61 tackles on the year, while veteran linebacker Brock Inman has been in on 54 stops.  Inman also has two interceptions to share the team lead with safety Caleb Aungst, while Jaylin Vaughn has 4.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for a loss to lead the Hawks from his defensive end position.
