ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T Football picked up a commanding victory in their home opener today, trouncing the Westgate Christian Ravens 89-12. The Miners celebrated Senior Night prior to kickoff, recognizing 29 senior members of the program for their accomplishments and contributions to S&T Football.
The Miner offense was efficient during Saturday night's game, running early and often. They accumulated 401 yards on the ground with contributions from 12 different athletes.
Evan Wells (Roxana, IL/Roxana) led the way with a net gain of 82 yards, including a 45-yard rushing touchdown for the first touchdown of the season. Wells,
Jake Ryan (Columbia, MO/Father Tolton), and
Alex Hernandez (Dixon, IL/Boylan Catholic) each contributed two rushing touchdowns, with Ryan adding another on a 5-yard pass to
Traejan Mueller (Lewisville, TX/Lewisville).
S&T's defense had a strong showing as well, forcing multiple turnovers that led to 19 points. They shutout out the Ravens on fourth down and held them to just 4-of-14 on third down conversions.
What's Next
The Miners are back in Allgood-Bailey Stadium again next week, taking on Northeastern State University at 6pm. The game's theme will be Res Life's Color Quest as well as the Pickaxe Platoon Rewards Hard Hat Giveaway.
