Bello Scores as Miners Fall Late to Lewis

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T women's soccer struck first but couldn't hold on late, falling 2-1 to Lewis in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play Sunday afternoon at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Miners (5-5-1, 3-4-1 GLVC) broke through in the 73rd minute when Nathalie Bello (Hattiesburg, MS/Sacred Heart) found the back of the net off a cross from Haylee Prime (Lewis Center, OH/Olentangy Orange), giving S&T a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Bello's second of the season and capped off a stretch of sustained offensive pressure by the Miners, who finished with 11 total shots and five corner kicks.

Lewis responded with two goals in quick succession, equalizing in the 84th minute before scoring the eventual game-winner less than a minute later. Despite the late rally from the Flyers, the Miners continued to push forward, earning a final corner kick in the closing moments, but were unable to convert.

Adriana Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) led the S&T attack with five shots, including one on target, while Ella Kramer (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) also added a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) made two saves and directed the defensive effort for a back line that held Lewis scoreless for more than 80 minutes.

With the result, Missouri S&T moves to 5-5-1 overall and 3-4-1 in GLVC play.

What's Next
The Miners will be back in action on the road at Upper Iowa on October 17 and Quincy on October 19.
