ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T men's soccer battled United Soccer Coaches Midwest Region No. 4 Indianapolis to a 0-0 draw Friday night at Allgood-Bailey Stadium, holding one of the Great Lakes Valley Conference's top offenses scoreless for the first time in conference play.
The Miners (5-3-2, 3-3-1 GLVC) matched the Greyhounds' (7-1-3, 5-1-2 GLVC) shot-for-shot, with both teams finishing with 17 attempts on the night. S&T's back line anchored a gritty defensive performance, while goalkeeper Cavitt Bruhn (Plano, TX/Plano) turned in a season-best seven saves to secure his third shutout of the year.
Offensively, S&T created multiple quality chances throughout both halves. Luke Giesing (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) and Luiz Bernis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) each recorded a shot on goal in the opening frame, while Joao Vieira (Punta del Este, Uruguay/International College), Alexander Burum (Oslo, Norway/Valle Hovin Vgs), and Brendan Owens (St. Louis, MO/Fort Zumwalt South) pushed the pace late in the second half. The Miners' high press and organized defensive shape limited the Greyhounds to only a few clear looks, including just two shots on target in the first half.
S&T also maintained composure in a physical match, committing just four fouls and conceding no cards. The Miners' midfield trio of Vieira, Giesing, and Jake Salazar-Blair (Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) controlled possession stretches, helping the Miners earn three first-half corner kicks.
With the result, Missouri S&T remains unbeaten in its last two conference matches and improves to 5-3-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play.
