#20 Men's Basketball 10-1 Following Victory over Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – #20 Missouri S&T Men's Basketball took down Truman State on Friday afternoon 72-69.

The Miners won the first half 32-26. At a 5-5 tie, S&T went on a 9-2 run highlighted by a Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) three-pointer. He hit another three-point shot less than a minute later to go up 17-10. After the Bulldogs cut it to three points, Lovell Williams (Rogers, MN/Maple Grove) put in a layup and a free throw to go up by six points. Beauchamp and Williams both went back-to-back from beyond the arc to extend their lead to 11 points. At halftime, the Bulldogs went on a run to make it a six-point deficit.
 
Truman State won the second half 43-40 but the Miners won the game 72-69 at the final whistle. The two teams traded leads until S&T went on a 9-0 run highlighted by a three-pointer made by Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit). Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) hit a three-pointer and Beauchamp hit another with 10:51 left in the second half. Truman pulled within one point, but S&T went on an 8-0 run to go up by nine points.

With 17 seconds left and a one-point lead, Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) put in a bucket to go up by three, but Truman responded with a layup with 12 seconds left. Ryan Sroka (Lake in the Hills, IL/Huntley) made two free throws with eight seconds left to end the game with a 72-69 win.
 
Beauchamp led S&T with 15 points and 5-for-8 three-point shooting. He also added four rebounds, three assists and one steal. Williams contributed 13 points, two rebounds and two steals. Young added 13 points and seven rebounds. Rickman had nine points with seven rebounds and Zac Brown (Collinsville, OK/Collinsville) collected six rebounds.

S&T shot 42.9% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range in Kirksville. They had 26 points in the paint with 28 points off the bench. They recorded 33 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals in their three-point win.

Missouri S&T is 10-1 for the first time since the 1995-96 season. In conference play, this is their best start in the GLVC. They have not started 4-0 in conference play since 1992-93 when the Miners were in the MIAA. 

What's Next

The originally scheduled game against William Jewell on Sunday was rescheduled to Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. They will be back in action on Jan. 11 when they return home to face Drury at 3 p.m. S&T will welcome Maryville on Jan. 16 and Missouri-St. Louis on Jan. 18.
