Lewis and UIndy Coming to Gibson for Whiteout Night and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day

1/29/2025 9:00:00 AM

ROLLA, MO  –  Missouri S&T continued their dominant run in the Great Lakes Valley Conference last week, securing three road wins against conference opponents. This improved their overall record to 16-1 and lifted them to #5 in the latest NABC poll, marking their highest ranking in school history. The Miners' current win streak stands at a program-best nine games, with key matchups against Lewis and Indianapolis at home this week.

Upcoming Games

Thursday's game will be a special Whiteout Night, with all fans encouraged to wear white. The first 100 S&T students to attend Thursday's game will receive a Miner Hard Hat, courtesy of McCarthy Construction. On Saturday, the Miners will celebrate Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.

About the Flyers

Lewis currently sits third in the GLVC standings with a 12-5 overall record and a 7-3 conference mark. The Flyers are among the top five teams in the conference in six key statistics, including allowing the fewest opponent rebounds per game. However, they have struggled with the three-point game this season, ranking last in both three-pointers made per game and opponent three-point percentage.

The Flyers' leading scorer is Paxton Warden, who averages 15.3 points per game and ranks 12th in the GLVC. Senior forward Rob Stroud has been a versatile contributor, ranking in the top 20 in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and blocks.

While the Miners trail the all-time series against Lewis 4-16, they've had recent success, winning four of the last five matchups, including the last three in a row at Gibson Arena.

About the Greyhounds

Indianapolis, currently sitting in eighth place in the GLVC standings, is fighting to stay in the conference tournament race with an 11-8 record. However, they've struggled in conference play, losing three of their last 5 games. Before facing the Miners, UIndy will play Lincoln on Thursday.

The Greyhounds rank fifth in the GLVC in points per game, but they are one of just five teams in the conference with a negative scoring margin. UIndy boasts two top-20 scorers in the conference: DaShawn Jackson (15.5 points per game) and Brody Whitaker (14.4 points per game). Dylan Ingram has been a defensive standout, recording 19 blocks in 19 games.

Indianapolis leads the all-time series 19-2, and the Miners are currently on a 17-game losing streak to the Greyhounds, with their last victory coming in 2009.

About the Miners

The 2024-25 Miners are continuing to break records, setting new milestones for both their highest national ranking and longest win streak in program history. Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) had another standout previous week, earning his third GLVC Player of the Week award this season. He ranks 1st in the conference and 28th in the nation for field goal percentage and is also in the top five in ten other GLVC statistical categories.

Guards Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit) and Lovell Williams (Rogers, MN/Maple Grove) remain among the best in Division II. Benassi ranks 9th in the nation for assist-to-turnover ratio, while Williams is 2nd in the GLVC for assists per game, averaging 5.1.

What's Next

After this week's home games, the Miners will hit the road again next week, traveling to Quincy and Fayette.
