Young's Sixth Double-Double Guides #15 Miners Over Cardinals

LIBERTY, Mo. – Led by another Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) double-double, Missouri S&T Men's Basketball defeated William Jewell 80-60 on Monday night.

Missouri S&T held a 31-30 lead over William Jewell after the first half. In a back-and-forth 20 minutes, the Miners took an early 16-10 lead. The Cardinals brought it down to three points at 17-20 until Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) and Zac Brown (Collinsville, OK/Collinsville) both put in layups.

At 24-21, Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) drained a three-pointer with 5:27 left in the half. Young put up two more points to make it an eight-point game, the biggest lead of the half. The Cardinals went on a 9-2 run to end the half to make it a one-point game.
 
 
The Miners put up 49 points in the second half to only 30 for the Cardinals to win 80-60. William Jewell took a 39-38 lead to begin the half until S&T went on an 11-0 run highlighted by six points from Young.

S&T never looked back as Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) hit a three-pointer to give the Miners a 61-47 lead with 8:44 left. With 2:15 left in the game, the Cardinals were down 58-69 but Lovell Williams (Rogers, MN/Maple Grove) hit two free throws and Ryan Sroka (Lake in the Hills, IL/Huntley) drained a three-pointer. S&T won by 20 points over William Jewell for their seventh straight win.
 
Young recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 23 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and three blocks. He shot 9-for-13 from the field for S&T. Stovall was second on the team with 15 points and seven rebounds. Sroka picked up 11 points and five rebounds. Williams collected eight points, four rebounds and five assists.
 
From the field, the Miners shot 58.5% and 45.5% from three-point range. They outrebounded the Cardinals 39-22 with 34 defensive rebounds. In the paint, S&T recorded 46 points.

What's Next

Missouri S&T will be back in action on Thursday night at Illinois Springfield at 7:30 p.m. Following a game at McKendree on Jan. 25, they will come back home on Jan. 30 to play Lewis at 7:30 p.m.
