SANTA BARBARA, CA – Missouri S&T wrapped up their Asics Invitational against the UC Irvine Anteaters, dropping the match 3-0 to the #3 team in the country. Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) led the team in points and kills during the invitational with 35 and 32, respectively, earning all-tournament honors.
Set 1
UC Irvine pulled ahead early, going up 6-2 before the Miners quickly turned the tables with a 5-1 run that tied the game at 7-7. S&T kept it close for several points but eventually surrendered a significant lead to the Anteaters, who went on an 8-1 run. A 4-0 rally by the Miners cut the deficit to four at 20-16, but it wasn't enough, as UC Irvine took the set 25-18.
Set 2
The teams were tied at 7-7 again in the second set before a 3-0 run by the Anteaters gave UCI the lead. The Miners responded with a 4-point streak to tie the game at 15-15. The teams traded points over the next stretch, but UCI finished the set on a 5-1 run to win 25-21.
Set 3
The Anteaters got off to another quick start in the third set, this time not allowing the Miners to recover. A decisive 7-0 run by UCI widened the gap, and the Anteaters went on to close the set 25-14.
