MALIBU, CA – Miner Volleyball concluded their four-game stint in California yesterday with a 3-0 loss to #10 Pepperdine.
Set 1
S&T fell behind early in the first set, falling behind 11-4 in the first fifteen points. The Miners were able to lock in and prevent any more big scoring runs by the Waves, but still fell 25-12 in the opening set.
Set 2
An ace by Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) and a block by Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) and Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) gave the Miners an early lead in the second set, but a four-point Wave run put Pepperdine up 5-2. S&T would fall further behind after another four-point run that helped put them ahead 12-7. The Miners steadily closed the gap though, using good defense and a few back-to-back points to make it 20-18. The Waves slammed the door though with a 5-1 run to take set #2.
Set 3
The Waves controlled the third set from the onset, with a four-point and a five-point run helping put them ahead 12-2. Meyer recorded a pair of kills to give S&T back-to-back points and cut into Pepperdine's lead. The Waves kept pushing though, with a six-point helping them take the third set comfortably.
