SANTA BARBARA, Ca. – Missouri S&T faced a tough challenge against #15 California State University, Northridge (CSUN) in a late Friday night match, starting at 9 p.m. CST. Despite a strong effort, the Miners fell in three sets.
Set 1
The Miners started strong with an early three-point run, taking a two-point lead. They maintained their advantage at 9-7 before the Matadors tied the set at 9-9. Both teams traded points evenly up to 17-17, but CSUN closed the set on an 8-1 run to claim the opener.
Set 2
Set two began with another close battle, but the Matadors pulled away with a dominant 9-2 run, establishing an eight-point lead. The Miners fought back with two three-point runs, narrowing the gap to 20-18. However, CSUN held firm and secured the set with a late three-point surge, winning 25-20.
Set 3
The third set mirrored the first, with both teams trading points in the early stages. Tied at 17-17, CSUN once again surged ahead, this time with a decisive five-point run. The Miners were unable to close the gap, dropping the set 25-20.
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) led the Miners with 10 kills, while Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) made his presence felt at the net with two solo blocks.
