ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Volleyball begins GLVC play this weekend at UIS and Quincy.
Match 1: Missouri S&T (2-8) at Illinois Springfield (8-3), Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.
Illinois Springfield comes into this match with an 8-3 overall record, all away from home. This match is their home opener as they welcome the Miners for the only time this season. This past weekend, the Prairie Stars went 1-2 at the Pittsburg State Regional as they defeated Emporia State but fell to Pittsburg State and Harding.
Both teams are opening GLVC play this weekend in Springfield, Illinois. Makenna Cox currently leads UIS with 4.63 kills per set and 5.17 points per set. The redshirt freshman also leads the team with 3.39 digs per set. In their all-time matchup, the Miners are 14-4 and 6-3 on the road. S&T swept UIS last season 3-0 on Sept. 23.
Jordan Burton (Olathe, KS/Olathe South) recorded 14 kills in that match.
Match 2: Missouri S&T (2-8) at Quincy (11-1), Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.
The Hawks come into this match as one of the hottest teams in the GLVC with an 11-1 record. They lost their first match of the season this past weekend against Nova Southeastern at the Lee University Tournament. Quincy and S&T matched up on Sept. 14 as the Hawks won 3-1 over the Miners. S&T recorded 22 total blocks in that match. Quincy received votes in the latest AVCA poll.
Emma Wijnbergen is first in Division II in kills per set and points per set. In Quincy's win over the Miners, she had 24 kills and 15 digs. Luna Van Baars had 19 kills for Quincy.
Madison Offerman (Herscher, IL/Herscher) and
Lexi Kosmopolis (O'Fallon, IL/Newsome) both had 11 kills for the Miners in that match. The Miners and Hawks are 12-12 head-to-head as this will be their 25
th all-time matchup.
About the Miners
Missouri S&T moved to 2-8 on the season after they dropped three matches at the Pittsburg State Regional. They were swept by both Washburn and Emporia State and fell to Henderson State 1-3.
Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) currently leads the team with 130 kills and 3.51 kills per set.
Isabelle Monaco (O'Fallon, MO/Living Word Christian) is second with 2.76 kills per set. Defensively,
Madison Smith (Boonville, MO/Boonville) has 49 total blocks and averages 1.29 per set. That is second in the GLVC through 38 sets.
What's Next
Missouri S&T will play in their first home games on Oct. 4-5 against Drury and Southwest Baptist. Friday's match against Quincy is at 6 p.m. and Saturday's versus SBU is at 3 p.m. They go back on the road to face William Jewell and Rockhurst on Oct. 11-12.
