ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Miners are on the road for the second consecutive week, making two trips to St. Louis to face Maryville on Friday and Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday. The match against UMSL will take place at a third-party location, Creve Coeur Soccer Park in St. Louis.
About the Saints:
Maryville is 4-0-1 entering the fourth week of the season. They are undefeated in Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 3-0 record. They have outscored opponents 21-3 this year, which includes an 8-0 victory over William Jewell last week.
Junior Ashlyne Hunt won the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week award last week, scoring four goals in two matches, including a hat trick against William Jewell. Hunt and teammate Elsa Nilson-Hurtig are tied for first in the conference for average goals per game with 5 each in five matches. The Saints goalie, Agnes Vilen, has the second-best Goal Allowed average in the conference at .600.
About the Tritons:
The Tritons hold a winning record at 3-2-1 but are winless in conference-play with an 0-2-1 record against GLVC opponents. Their most recent match was against Rockhurst, which ended in a 0-2 loss for the Tritons.
UMSL's Jada Holloman has the second-best average goals per game in the conference at .833, scoring 5 in six matches so far. Holloman is also in the top five for points and game winnings goals too.
The Tritons will face the Blue Tigers of Lincoln on Friday ahead of their Sunday match against the Miners.
About the Miners:
The Miners went 0-2 last week, losing their final non-conference match of the season to Missouri Western as well as their second GLVC contest of the season against Drury. The team is now 1-4, but their 1-1 conference record currently has them sitting in 8th place in the GLVC.
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) tied her career high for saves in last week's match against Drury, preventing 8 goals in that contest. The Miners will need another strong week from her and the defense to fend off UMSL's Holloman and Maryville's double threat with Hunt and Nilson-Hurtig.
What's Next:
The Miners will host the Prairie Stars on October 4th and the #13 team in the country, McKendree University, on October 6th.
