ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- S&T dropped to 1-3 on the season today, falling to the Missouri Western State University Griffons by a single goal.
The Griffons pushed into S&T territory early in the match, earning a pair of corner kicks in the first seven minutes. A few minutes later, a foul by
Drue Gaal (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) led to an unsuccessful penalty kick for Missouri Western.
Despite being outshot 8-0, the Miners held the Griffons scoreless in the first half. Missouri Western didn't waste much time in the second half, scoring a goal four minutes into the second half.
S&T got their first shot attempt in the 67th minute, with an attempt by
Nathalie Bello (Hattiesburg, MS/Sacred Heart) getting stopped by the Griffons' goalkeeper. The Miners would get another pair of goals in the 80th minute, with both
Macy Wilderson (Kansas City, MO/St. Pius X) and
Ava Hoenes (Columbia, MO/Hickman) getting a chance, but both were unsuccessful.
The Miners would go on to lose 0-1 to the Griffons as they drop to 0-3 in non-conference play this season.
What's Next
The Miners travel to Springfield, Missouri to face the Drury Panthers on Sunday, before heading to St. Louis for matches against Maryville and UMSL next week.
