ROLLA, Mo. -- The Miners won their first match of the season in thrilling fashion today, scoring the game-winning goal off a header by
Melissa Parker (Chesterfield, MO/Marquette) with 0:09 left in the game.
S&T dominated possession for most of the first half, taking 11 shots in the half to Lincoln's 2. Just like their previous match,
Allison Cole (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield) had a few scoring opportunities down the right side early, taking three shots in the first six minutes.
The Miners had 9 shots in the opening 16 minutes, taking the lead in the 17th minute off a goal by
Greycen Erisman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) that was taken from just outside the box after a pass from the corner by
Nathalie Bello (Hattiesburg, MS/Sacred Heart).
The Blue Tigers would take their first two shots of the game around the 31st minute, with
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) saving both as the Miners held onto a 1-0 leading heading into halftime.
The Miners kept the ball in Lincoln's defending third early in the second half, taking 4 corner kicks and 3 shots in the first 25 minutes of the half.
With less than 10 minutes left to play, a deep through ball by Lincoln setup an equalizing goal by Angela Reynolds.
Despite several good opportunities, the game looked to be headed for a tie, until a yellow card by Lincoln at the edge of the Miners' attacking third set up one last chance. Erisman came in to take the free kick, sending it high and deep into the box where Parker managed to head the ball in to give S&T the game-winning goal with just seconds left on the clock.
Erisman now leads the team in points with four, earning three today, including her first career goal. Parker's game-winner was her first career goal as well.
