ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field), who has stood out over the past four seasons for the Miner golf team, was named as the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Player of the Year in the sport for the 2023-24 season and as one of two Miners named to the All-GLVC team.

The Miners – who are opening play today at the NCAA Division II Central/Midwest Regional in Edmond, Okla. – were also represented by Jeppe Thybo (Esbjerg, Denmark/Rybners Gymnasium) on the all-conference team.

Miltun is completing a standout career for the Miners, which began by earning medalist honors and being named as the GLVC's Freshman of the Year in 2020-21, while also earning an at-large spot to compete at the NCAA regional tournament.  He has followed that up with three consecutive first-team All-GLVC awards and won medalist honors again in record fashion during his junior season, where he set GLVC marks for the lowest score for a round, lowest score for a tournament and lowest score to par.  He was named to the PING All-America second team after the 2022-23 campaign.

This season, Miltun finished third at the GLVC Championships as he recorded a stroke average of 71 shots per round.  He finished fifth or better in seven of the team's 10 tournaments, which included a win at the Maverick Spring Invitational in Arizona in February, a second place finish and two third place showings in events this season.

He comes into the regional tournament as the top-ranked player in the GLVC, the third-ranked player in the NCAA's Midwest region and 43^rd-ranked player in NCAA Division II.  He is the first Miner to earn the GLVC's Player of the Year award.

Thybo had a strong season as well for S&T, finishing the season as the medalist at the Arch Cup and the Ken Partridge Invitational among his three top-five finishes during the year.  He had an additional finish among the top 10 this season as he averaged around 73 shots per round over the course of the campaign.

During the 2023-24 season, the Miners won two tournaments, finished second in five other tournaments and took third in the stroke play portion of the GLVC Championships before finishing as the conference runner-up in match play.
