Miners Host Hawks in Season’s Final Home Series; Senior Day on Saturday

4/24/2024 9:20:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo.  –  The Rockhurst University Hawks are coming to Rolla this weekend in S&T's final games at home this season. The Miners will be honoring 12 seniors for Senior Day before the start of Saturday's doubleheader.

The Miners come into their second to last series of the 2024 season with a 22-20 overall record. They are 12-16 in conference play, putting them at 10th overall in the GLVC. They had a setback last week when they suffered four losses to the Lewis Flyers.

The Miners continue to lead the conference in triples and have the fifth best on base percentage with a .430. They have a .294 batting average, recording 372 hits so far this season. Jack Bell (Andover, KS/Andover Central) has only been healthy for 17 games this season, but when he has been able to take the field, he has had the most success at the plate, putting up team bests with a .368 batting average and a .667 slugging percentage.

Regarding pitching, the Miners carry a 7.02 ERA and are allowing batters a .311 batting average. They have remained relatively free of severe errors on the mound, recording the second fewest hit by pitches and second fewest balks in the conference this season. Dylan Mollett (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) has the best ERA on the team with a 5.09 and has been steadily making his way into the history books of S&T. His 149 strikeouts this season are the fifth most all-time for an S&T pitcher and he will have his sights set on Aaron Bedsworth who holds the fourth place with 153 strikeouts. Additionally, Mollett could make his way into the top ten for strikeouts in a season too as his 53 strikeouts this year are only one K away from tying the 10th spot.

About the Opponent:

Rockhurst University is 23-18 this season with a 15-13 record in conference. They have lost four of their last five though, dropping three in their series to Drury last week and losing yesterday's solo game to Northwest Missouri State in a 4-0 shutout.

The Hawks have the fifth best batting average in the conference with a .319. Their slugging is fifth best as well, but they are eighth overall in on base percentage, taking the fifth fewest walks this season with 174. They have had success with doubles and triples, holding the second place in both categories. They are also tied with UIndy for the most stolen bases this season, so S&T pitchers will need to keep their heads on a swivel. The Hawks' best batter is Adonis Forte who ranks sixth in the conference with a .406 batting average.

Rockhurst's pitching holds a 6.61 ERA and are sixth in the conference in that statistic. Their allowed batting average is eighth at .294 as they have given up 381 hits this season. Starting pitchers Jake Canent and Gavyn Dockery have performed well for the Hawks with 3.60 and 3.86 ERAs, respectively. They currently hold the fourth and sixth positions on the GLVC ERA leaderboard.

Series Schedule:
