4/17/2024 12:00:00 PM

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.  –  The Miners have only dropped one game in the last two weeks, sweeping Upper Iowa and taking three games in their series against Truman State. They are 22-16 overall and 12-12 in GLVC play, ranking them sixth in the GLVC standings.

The Miners' batting average is .299 heading into the series against the Flyers. They lead the conference in on base percentage with a .441, helped by their 105 HBPs and 193 walks, which are first and fourth most in the conference, respectively. They also continue to lead the conference in triples with 16, which also ties them for the tenth most in the country. Kenneth Sugi (North Vancouver, BC/Carson Graham Secondary) is the Miners best hitter right now, batting at .352, recording 45 hits and 39 RBIs in 128 at bats. Jack Bell's (Andover, KS/Andover Central) return from injury has also made a big difference, as he has recorded a .457 batting average since his return.

The Miners had another good week pitching last week, averaging fewer than 5 runs allowed per game in the TSU series to decrease the teams' ERA to 6.91. Mollett's 4.98 ERA and McBroom's 5.13 ERA are the two best among the S&T starting pitchers, with both having good outings against the Bulldogs. Mollett's ERA currently ranks him tenth in the GLVC while McBroom's opposing batting average of .255 is also tenth.
