Miners Riding Five Game Win Streak into Series at Truman State

4/10/2024 9:05:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo.  –  Coming off a win over Harding and a sweep of the Peacocks, Missouri S&T looks to extend their win streak when they visit Truman State this week. The Miners are now 19-15 with a 9-11 record, putting them eighth in the GLVC standings.

The Miners success last week earned them two weekly awards, with Dylan Mollett (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) getting Pitcher of the week and Jack Bell (Andover, KS/Andover Central) winning Player of the Week. Mollett's performance included 3 looking strikeouts, bringing his season total to 13 and ranking him tenth in the conference.

The Miners had a .336 batting average in last week's games, boosting their season average to .305 which is sixth best in the conference. The Miners have scored the second most runs in the conference at 281, only five runs behind Illinois-Springfield who has 286. They continue to lead the conference in triples with 16, which is tied for the sixth most in the nation. S&T is also first in on-base percentage at .445, have the third most RBIs and fourth fewest strikeouts.

The Miners had an ERA below 3.00 in three games last week, with the best being a 1.29 in game two against the Peacocks. This helped bring their team ERA back up after a difficult series in Illinois the week before. S&T now sits at eight in the conference with a 7.21 ERA.

About the Opponents:

The Truman State Bulldogs enter this week's series with a 6-14 conference record, tied for the second worst, and 9-25 overall. They were swept in a series at Rockhurst last week, getting outscored 8 to 34. Their last win came in the week prior, when they won 12-10 in the final game of a series split with Lewis University.

Statistically, the Bulldogs have the third worst batting average in the conference at .255, scoring the second fewest runs with 148. They are also in the bottom three for hits, RBIs, and on-base percentage. Their .369 slugging percentage and 21 homeruns are both the worst in the league.

The Bulldogs pitching has not faired much better, as their 8.01 ERA is third worst. They are in the bottom three for runs, hits, and earned runs allowed, as well as the second worst allowed batting average at .322. They do lead the league in fewest HBPs with just 24, which will be a change of pace for the Miners who have received 97 this season, the second most in the nation and almost twice as many as any other team in the GLVC. They also have the fifth fewest errors with 34.

The Bulldogs' best starting pitcher is Isaac Epps, who has a 5.82 ERA in nine starts. The Miners will most likely face him in game one of the series. Their two best batters are Dakota Joggerst and Dylan Thompson, who are batting at .348 and .324, respectively.
