ROLLA, Mo. – After a windy series in Springfield, Illinois last week, the Miners will be back at the Ballpark at S&T for five home games. They kick the week off with a single game against Harding University on Tuesday afternoon before starting a series against GLVC opponent, Upper Iowa on Friday.
Last week's series against the Prairie Stars was one of a kind, with strong winds making fielding difficult, leading to 53 runs for the Miners during the series. S&T set a new record high for home runs in the first game of the series, hitting eight over the wall with the aid of 15 mph wind pushing from behind home plate. Their 25 hits in game one tied a program high, as did
Kenneth Sugi's (North Vancouver, BC/Carson Graham Secondary) five hits in that game. The Miners' batting average improved from .280 to .299 after the series' 53 hits. Contrarily, the teams' ERA dropping to 7.77 after the high-scoring series.
S&T's on base percentage is now the third highest in the conference at .438, with
Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) ranking eighth individually with .519 in that statistic. The Miners now have six batters with batting averages above .300, with
Carter Bither's (Springfield, MO/Springfield Catholic) being the highest at .365.
