ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's
Ikenna Okeke (Bolingbrook, IL/Romeoville), who led the Miners in scoring for the second year in succession, has parlayed that into a second selection in as many years to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team for the 2023-24 season.
Okeke averaged 15.6 points per game, a mark that currently ranks 11
th in the GLVC, while also posting marks of 6.1 rebounds per contest, a 47.7 percent shooting percentage from the field, 38 percent mark from three-point range and a 79.3 percent mark from the free throw line. Okeke also tied for the team lead with 46 three-point baskets and finished the season with 47 assists, 19 blocked shots and 19 steals.
During the season, Okeke led S&T in scoring on 11 occasions, including the top two scoring games by a Miner this season with 27 points against Drury and a 26-point outing against Southwest Baptist. Those two games, which came during S&T's final two home games of the season, helped earn him the GLVC's Player of the Week award. He would follow up those performances by hitting a game-winning three-pointer in the Miners' next game as his basket with 2.1 seconds to play led to a 78-75 victory at Rockhurst.
Okeke scored in double figures on 21 occasions during the season and had four double-doubles on the year.
In addition,
Micah Johnson (Ankeny, IA/Centennial) was named as the Miners' nominee for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award. The nominees for that award must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from full-time GLVC member institutions are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
