Miners Open GLVC Play Against the Greyhounds this Weekend

3/5/2024 4:35:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo.  –  After coming through the first three series of the season with an 8-4 record, the Miners turn their attention to conference play, starting with the University of Indianapolis this weekend.

The Miners pitching has stood out in the first 12 games of the season, as they lead the GLVC in ERA with 4.59, the next best is Maryville with 5.72. They are also allowing the fewest hits per inning played, only giving up 96 hits in 98 innings. S&T's pitching success is further evidenced by the fact that they are second in the conference for allowed batting average (.257), tied for third in runs allowed (60), and third in earned runs allowed (50).

Offensively, the Miners are leading the GLVC in triples this season with nine. Individually, Carter Bither (Springfield, MO/Springfield Catholic), Garrett Weiner (Alton, IL/Marquette), Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto), and Tyler Prince (Mexico, MO/Mexico) are all batting above .300, with Bither's .366 leading the team. S&T's 32 stolen bases are also the third most in the conference.

About the Opponent:
Indianapolis enters this weekend's series with a 2-5 record. Their .251 batting average is the third worst in the conference and their 41 runs are second lowest. Like the Miners, they have had more success in the field than at the plate with a 6.52 ERA that is sixth in the conference. They are also one of only three GLVC teams to not allow a triple so far this season.

The Miners trail 12-18 in the all-time series against UIndy. The last time that these two teams played was April of last season. S&T split that series, losing the first two but winning the next pair by scores of 15-7 and 14-5. This weekend will be the first time since 2014 that the Greyhounds have come to Rolla for a series at the Ballpark at S&T.
