HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Miners play their final two matches of the regular season today and tomorrow. They are taking on the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters both times, with match one today (March 25th) at 5 p.m. and match two tomorrow (March 26th) at 1 p.m.
The Miners hold a record of 10-10 and look to end the season .500 or better after this week's matches. They remain in the top 40 in the country for every key team statistic, with their hitting percentage being the best, ranking 27th in the nation at 26.9%. Individually,
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) is now 17th in blocks with .948 per set. He is also tied for the most solo blocks this season with 17.
Grant Edmonds' (Shawnee, KS/Edison) 9.33 assists per set rank him 21st nationally.
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) is on several leaderboards as well, ranking 22nd in kills per set (3.49), 23rd in points per set (4.08), 24th in attacks per set (7.78), and 40th in aces per set (.369).
Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) also made it into the rankings at 31st in kills per set with a 3.31 average per set.
About the Opponent:
Lincoln Memorial University is 16-5 this season and have won 11 sets in a row dating back to their match against Thomas More on March 15th. They have face four teams that the Miners have played this season in five different matches, holding a 4-1 record against those opponents to S&T's 3-2 record. The Railsplitters are in the top 25 for every team statistic except for digs per set. Their highest ranking is their hitting percentage, ranking 7th in the country at 31.9%.
The Railsplitters biggest offensive weapon is graduate student Matthew Gentry, whose .439 hitting percentage is second best in the country. He has recorded 167 kills on just 287 attacks attempts this season. The Miners will also be prepared for freshman Griffin Wheatley, who has had 11 or more kills in his last five matches.
