2/13/2024 12:22:00 PM

FAYETTE, Ia.  –  The Miners are heading to Fayette, Iowa to face the Peacocks in just their second matchup in program history. The only previous matchup between the Miners and Peacocks was in 2009. Missouri S&T hosted the game and won 72-68 over the then Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponent.

Upper Iowa was approved to join the Great Lakes Valley Conference in late 2022 and this is their first season in the GLVC. They are 10-10 overall and are 7-9 against their Great Lakes opponents. Their previous game was against Lewis University, in which they were unable to recover from a poor first quarter and lost 63-67.

The three-point shooting will be something to pay attention to in this game. Upper Iowa is second in the GLVC for three-point percentage (36.8%) while S&T is second in three-point % defense, holding opponents to 27.8%. Upper Iowa's Katie Tornstrom is the greatest threat in this area, as she is second in the GLVC for three-point percentage with 40.6%.

Her rankings are as follows: tied for second in blocks with 1.5 per game, tied for third in scoring with 16.9 points per game, third in field goal percentage with 54.5%, and tied for fifth in rebounding with 8.3 per game.

Keep an eye on Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) as well, as she has been climbing up S&T's top 10 list for three-pointers made in a single season. Kent sits at seventh with 54 threes and is chasing sixth place (53) and fifth place (58) in Thursday's game.
