2/12/2024 2:46:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo.  –  After winning their last six sets, the Miners will look to continue their success with three games at Maryville University. The Miners are set to face the host team, Maryville, tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 7 p.m., Cumberland University on Friday at 5 p.m., and Roosevelt University on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Missouri S&T went 2-1 in last weeks' matches, dropping the first against Lindenwood before beating both Talladega and Central State in straight sets. Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) was the most productive offensively in those three matches, with 19 kills/2 errors/31 attacks for a .548 hitting percentage. Jordan Orr (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) was another standout, as he recorded four service aces in his last three sets played.

Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) also had a noteworthy week, picking up three solo blocks and three block assists between the Lindenwood and Central State matches. He is now tied for first in D1 volleyball for solo blocks this season with nine and he is in 13th for total blocks per set with 1.065.

The team has 28 solo blocks which ties them for the third most in the nation. The team also set a program record for hitting percentage in a match with .426 (33K/10E/54A) against Central State on Saturday.

About the Opponents:
The Miners' first opponent of the week is a familiar one, as they face the Maryville Saints for the third time in the program's short history. Maryville is 7-3 after winning all three of their matches last week. Statistics show that the Saints defend well, since they lead the country in digs per set with 10.45 and are ninth in opponent hitting percentage (.164).

The second opponent of the week will be NAIA Cumberland University. The Cumberland Phoenix are 1-3 this season, having just lost 0-3 to Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday. With a .159 hitting percentage, the Phoenix have struggled with their hitting this season. They do have one player in the NAIA top 10 for kills, as their senior, outside hitter Jacob Whyte averages 3.85 kills per set.

The final opponent that S&T will face this week is another NAIA school, Roosevelt University (2-5 overall). Like Cumberland, Roosevelt's hitting has been lackluster this season, as they are hitting at .131 percent (290K/177E/812A). Their strength comes on their defensive front, with an average of 2.28 blocks per set.
