Miners Hit 19 Threes in 30-point Win Over Principia

ROLLA, Mo.  --  The Miners played their final non-conference game of the season this evening, defeating the Principia Panthers 112-82. The Miners made 19 threes in the game, the second most in a game in S&T history, with the most being 20 on December 4th, 2003 against Calvary Bible.

The Miners grabbed a lead quickly at the beginning of the game, going ahead 12-0 a little of two minutes in. Cameron Stovall (St. Louis, MO/Vashon) led the onslaught with four points, two rebounds, and a steal in that time, while Lovell Williams (Rogers, MN/Maple Grove) and Ryan Sroka (Lake in the Hills, IL/Huntley) were hot from beyond the arc, each hitting a three. Threes from Williams and Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) in the ensuing minutes would help the Miners pull ahead 24-1 at 14:26 in the first half.

The Panthers offense would finally wake up around the fourteen minute mark though, scoring on their next three straight possessions. The Miners offense continued to put up points though and would extend their lead to as many as 36 after back to back triples from Alex Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit). Principia would find some success late in the first though, ending the half on a 12-1 run to make it 61-39.

With starters back on the floor to begin the second half, it did not take long for the Miners to return to a 30+ point lead with Williams, Sroka, and Beauchamp all knocking down threes. S&T would extend their lead to as many as 38 in the second half, before sitting their starters and allowing the rest of the game to play out to a 112-82 victory.

The Miners had 12 members contribute to the scoring, with seven of them scoring in double digits. Williams led the team in scoring with 16, going 4-6 from the three. Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) was just shy of another double-double, recording 12 points and 9 rebounds.
